Submitting Problems

1. Simple Typing.
Many math problems can be submitted simply with standard typing. A few conventions below will help.

1. Powers
2. Roots
3. Exponentials
4. Fractions
5. Subscripts
6. Integrals

2. File Attachments To e-mail.
For more detail, you can send an attachment to an e-mail in which case you can use a word processing program such as Write or Wordpad. Equation Writer is excellent used with Wordpad or Write if you are familiar with it- if not, you would need to spend a little time with the programs. Equation Writer is usually included with most Windows 95 & Windows 98 software packages. Equation Writer is a great program for writing any sort of mathematical notation - You will have to highlight your finished work in equation writer and copy it and then paste it into word or wordpad for a finished file which can then be sent as an attachment to e-mail. To see if you have Equation Writer, use the find feature by clicking on the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen. Search for the file named eqnedt32.exe. Similarly, you can find Wordpad and Write by looking for the files named wordpad.exe and write.exe. Also, many scanners now have features to attach a scanned sheet to e-mail. If you have such a scanner, this would be ideal.

3. Diagrams.
Sometimes necessary, many times not. MS paint (mspaint.exe) is a quick way to draw diagrams but keep in mind that the file sizes associated with this program (.BMP files) tend to be very large. If you must submit a diagram, do not send a BMP file attachment. Instead, convert the BMP file to a JPEG or a GIF file before sending as an attachment as these file types are much smaller than BMP files. There are numerous programs out there for doing this.

4. Take A Picture.
If you have a digital camera, draw the diagram on a piece of paper and take a picture of it. You can then attach the resulting JPEG file to e-mail.

The above are just a few suggestions- by far, option 2 is the easiest if you are familiar with Wordpad, Equation Writer and file attachments to e-mail.
